Our youth teams enjoyed a successful weekend. Our U15, U16, U17 and U18 sides all faced their Petrolul counterparts and claimed all three points at home in each of the four matches.

U18

Our Youth League side overcame Petrolul in a hard-fought encounter, winning with a stunning strike in added time.

The visitors created the first major chance of the match, but in the ninth minute Deáky Zsombor produced an excellent reflex save to deny a deflected shot. Petrolul threatened again in the 18th minute, but their striker fired wide from close range. Our response came through a long-range effort from Cătrinoi-Cornea Sebastian.

We took the lead in the 37th minute when Bota Darius Cristian headed Máthé Apor’s free-kick from the left into the net from close range (1–0). We were unable to retain our advantage until the break, as Constantin Antonio capitalised on a misplaced pass and equalised from close range in the 45th minute (1–1).

Petrolul were awarded a penalty early in the second half, which Stoica David converted to put the visitors ahead (1–2). We headed wide following an FK corner in the 50th minute, while the goalkeeper saved Papp György’s 72nd-minute header with his foot and then gathered Bota’s long-range effort a minute later.

We drew level from the penalty spot in the 77th minute, with Bota Darius Cristian scoring his second goal of the match to bring us back into the contest (2–2). The decisive moment came in added time: Tóth-Pál Milán completed the comeback with a stunning strike in the 90+4th minute to keep all three points at home (3–2).

Head coach Goran Kopunović:

– My heartfelt congratulations go to the players. We started the match well and played good football in the first half. We took the lead, but our opponents then capitalised on a major mistake to equalise. Petrolul were awarded a penalty following another individual error early in the second half, leaving us 2–1 behind.

– I was not afraid that we would lose the match because I knew how much work we had put in during the week. The players showed very positive team character and managed to turn the game around. That is a significant achievement because Petrolul are an excellent youth side representing a top-flight club. No match will be easy during this regular season, but we must always focus on ourselves. We will keep moving forward with humility and hard work. Our attention now turns first to Wednesday’s away match and then to Sunday’s fixture, which will also be on the road.

U17

Our U17 side played with confidence even when reduced to ten men as they comfortably overcame Petrolul. After a goalless first half, Mitra Szilárd’s team found the net four times and collected their first points of the season with a 4–0 victory.

We looked the more dangerous side from the opening stages. The visitors’ goalkeeper tipped a fine FK header behind for a corner in the ninth minute and then saved with his fingertips at the end of an excellent individual move by Lukács Bence. Shortly afterwards, Fazakas Zalán headed wide from Lukács’s cross, while Klein Tizian tried his luck from distance, but we were unable to break down Petrolul’s defence before half-time.

The breakthrough arrived in the 50th minute when Oniga Victor slotted a low shot into the net from close range following a corner (1–0). Three minutes later, Fülöp Farkas received his second yellow card, leaving our side a man down.

The sending-off did not disrupt the Red and Blacks. We were awarded a free-kick 17 metres from goal following a driving run by Szabó Örs, and Györfi Bence deceived both the wall and the goalkeeper with a clever low effort (2–0). Kajtár András then produced a fine save at the end of a Petrolul counter-attack in the 63rd minute.

Substitute Jánosi Zsolt effectively put the contest to bed with a beautifully placed shot in the 77th minute (3–0), before Szabó Örs completed the 4–0 victory in the 88th minute.

Head coach Fogarasi Zoltán:

– Petrolul arrived on the back of an emphatic victory, having defeated Brașov 7–2 in the opening round. We therefore prepared very seriously throughout the week and did not want to leave anything to chance. We faced them three times last year, so we knew we were up against a solid side who combine frequently through the middle and time their preparations for through balls well. Their forward runs allowed them to get in behind our defence on three or four occasions, giving them opportunities to score.

– We controlled the game for the majority of the match. Our pressing worked well, we won possession back frequently and our positive transitions posed a constant goal threat. We went into the break with a three-goal lead and extended the margin in the second half. I am particularly pleased that we scored three goals from long-range shots and another from a set piece, as this has not been a particular strength of ours in the past.

– The most important thing, however, is that we kept a clean sheet. We needed a little luck in one or two situations, but fundamentally it demonstrated the team’s stability and organisation. There can be no doubt that we deserved to win. We have won both of our matches so far and continue in Buzău on Tuesday, where we will need to play with the same discipline and organisation. We want to carry our good form forward and show that last year’s performances were no accident.

U15

Our U15 team kept all three points at home following a fiercely contested and eventful encounter.

The opening goal arrived in the 33rd minute, when Hajnal László converted Hella-Fehér Dániel’s low cross from the left at close range (1–0). Our team took this one-goal advantage into the break.

We scored again at the end of another move down the left early in the second half. Makkai Vince got a touch to Jánoska-Máthé Krisztián’s cross in front of goal, sending the ball into the net (2–0).

Dincă Filip capitalised on a misplaced pass near our own goal in the 65th minute, bringing Petrolul back into the contest (2–1). A third home goal followed with a little good fortune in added time, at the end of a counter-attack in which we had a numerical advantage. Hajnal László scored his second of the match to complete the 3–1 victory.

FK Csíkszereda–Petrolul 3–1 (1–0)

FK Csíkszereda: Géczi Mihály – Lovas Bence, Jánosi Hunor, Boga Olivér, Becze Balázs, Sângerean Darius (Ilyés Gergő, 71), Hajnal László (Szővérfi Rajmond, 80), Törő Milán (Benkes András, 58), Gagiu Milán, Kozma Gergő (C), Bejinariu Lucas (Makkai Vince, 45). Head coach: Burus Bernát.

Petrolul: Radu Alex – Năstase Claudiu (Stoica Ayan, 45), Dogaru Ianis, Dinu Sergiu, Diaconu George (Tudor Lucas, 48), Enache David, Dincă Filip, Sima David (C), Bîrzilă Răzvan (Ionescu Alexandru, 56), Păun Mihnea (Dumitrache Carol, 56), Moise Janis. Head coach: Dorobeț Adrian Bogdan.

Head coach Burus Bernát:

– In the second round we faced a much more settled opponent than in our opening match. We started the game a little tense and rushed, which may also have been due to this being our first home fixture. This time the players wanted to live up not only to their own and their coach’s expectations, but also to those of the supporters in the stands.

– The first half was largely about transitions, with end-to-end football during the opening 20 minutes until the drinks break. We managed to reorganise during those few minutes and then played with greater composure and awareness in the latter part of the half. As a result, we went into the break with a 1–0 lead.

– We were able to control the match completely in the second half. Our substitutes made a good impact and added extra dynamism to our play. Unfortunately, a mistake at 2–0 allowed our opponents back into the contest, followed by a chaotic five-minute spell. The team coped well, however, before a fine attacking move enabled us to complete the 3–1 victory.

– Mistakes are to be expected from the academy’s youngest age group, but the most important thing is to learn from them and continue building. Congratulations to the boys; we have collected three important points! We will continue preparing, as another league match awaits us in Buzău on Tuesday.
