Our women's Superliga team suffered a defeat in the first friendly match of the Hungarian training camp, against MTK Budapest.

Head coach Szilvia Szeitl reports on the first phase of preparations and the lessons from the first training match:

„We started preparing for the upcoming season in Miercurea Ciuc, focusing mainly on improving fitness. By the third week, we had added pressing, counter-pressing after ball loss, defensive transitions, and build-up play to the training sessions.

Currently, we are in a ten-day training camp in Hungary, where we will play three friendlies against top-division teams. The purpose of these matches is to apply what we’ve practiced during training sessions in real match situations. I asked the girls to do the same in Sunday’s match, our first pre-season game of the year, which was against MTK, one of the title contenders in the Hungarian league.

The first half started nervously, with most of the action taking place in midfield duels. The girls tried to follow my instructions, but there were many inaccuracies and mistakes in our game, which we aim to fix in the upcoming training sessions and matches. Still, there were phases in the match where we pressed high and won the ball often, but our attacking transitions and finishing were weak. These are areas where we definitely need improvement.

In the second half, the game changed, with the opponent controlling possession and pushing us into a more defensive posture. Nevertheless, we managed to create chances. Our opponent capitalized on two of our mistakes – one from open play and one from a set piece.

I saw promising signs, and this match was an important step toward our goals. I want to thank the girls for their dedicated and hard work over the past few weeks. We also thank MTK for the opportunity and wish them success in their league campaign.”

Our next friendly match will be on Wednesday in Cegléd, where we will face Szekszárd, another NB1 team, at the Zsengellér Gyula Stadium.
