We secured a crucial victory in Round 6 of the Women’s Superleague championship play-offs, defeating our biggest rivals Farul Constanța 1–0 away from home. With this result, we brought the three points back from Ovidiu and remain firmly in the race for the league title.

The two title contenders met for the second time in the play-offs: the first clash in Miercurea Ciuc ended in a 1–1 draw, while this time we played away. With a mature, disciplined performance and strong mental resilience, we claimed all three points.

The opening minutes were balanced, but we remained compact defensively and prevented the hosts from building meaningful attacks. In the 25th minute we took the lead: after Onyango saved an effort inside the box, the rebound fell to Lindsey Leigh Porter, who controlled with her right foot and beautifully chipped the ball with her left into the top left corner (0–1).

Towards the end of the first half, Farul tried to increase the pressure, but we defended in an organised manner and did not allow a single shot on target before the break.

In the second half, the home side pushed hard for an equaliser, but we stood firm. Boiceva’s free kick from just outside the box was brilliantly saved by Böröcz Bettina, who was in outstanding form throughout the match, and she confidently claimed the subsequent corner. Farul took more risks, but without creating clear chances they resorted to long balls and crosses – our goalkeeper remained solid. We stayed dangerous on the counterattack and managed our lead in a disciplined and organised manner until the final whistle.

The high intensity of the derby was reflected in the number of bookings: the referee showed 12 yellow cards, and both benches were cautioned. The victory on our rival’s ground sends a clear message – we are still in the title race.

After the match, head coach Szeitl Szilvia highlighted the team’s mental strength.

– These girls work extremely hard to achieve results like this, which involves a lot of sacrifice and effort that is not always visible. We always strive for the best; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. This team has risen from a very deep point and is on an incredible run. I congratulate them and I am very proud of them. We finally managed to beat our biggest rival on their own ground, which is a major achievement. We are very happy about this win, but we know the championship is not over – she said.

She also pointed out the performances of two key players.

– I would like to highlight our goalkeeper’s outstanding performance – what she did today was incredible – as well as Lindsey Porter’s wonderful goal. But hats off to the whole team. We wish everyone a Happy Easter; this is how we could contribute to the celebration – she concluded.

We continue the play-offs on Sunday, April 26 at 13:00 away against Universitatea Cluj.
