FK Csíkszereda and the Székelyföld Football Academy marked the most successful season in their history with their now traditional end-of-year gala. Hundreds of our footballers, from the youngest to the oldest, applauded one another’s achievements.

As usual at this time of year, the great hall of the House of Arts in Miercurea Ciuc was packed with the club’s and the academy’s players, staff members, coaches and leaders. The event opened with a special short film prepared for the occasion by the club and the academy, which will soon be presented to the general public.

Then followed a moving moment: the teammates and coaches of Ioó Edvin — the youth player who suffered a severe injury last Sunday and underwent life-saving heart surgery this week thanks to nationwide solidarity — took the stage to send him a message: we are with you, Edvin! At the same time, Father Rezső (László Rezső), parish priest of Ciceu, offered a prayer of thanksgiving and blessing, asking for Edvin’s recovery.

Host Szép Zoltán then invited to the stage Dolhai István, Consul General of Hungary in Miercurea Ciuc. “We must sail, even if we do so against the wind, when waves rise high before us and we may run aground at any time, because we must move forward, reach our destination — for the goal and the duty are more important than fear, danger or difficulties. As the poet says, God gave the dangerous sea, but it reflects the sky. It is an honour for me to be here and to represent the Hungarian Government at this awards gala, where we can jointly celebrate the successes of FK Csíkszereda and thank all those whose work, perseverance and faith contributed to these results,” the Consul General said.

He added that if he had to summarise FK’s performance in a single sentence, it would perhaps be this: a refutation of defeatism. “A proof that despite the strongest headwind and the highest waves, one can reach harbour and achieve the set goal. Why should there be football in Székelyföld? — the defeatists asked and still ask. For the same reason we have Hungarian kindergartens, Hungarian schools and the Sapientia University: because they build community, offer a future, and provide strength and resilience. There have always been and always will be defeatists, but the fact that the Hungarian community in Transylvania, despite all difficulties, is still here and wishes to remain Hungarian is thanks to those who, despite everything, chose perseverance. Thanks to FK Csíkszereda it has become clear that in Székelyföld there is not only ice hockey, but also football, and this has brought joy, pride and community experience to countless local supporters, whether in front of the screens or beside the pitch. The FK experts and leaders know well that one must sail: for a club with a Hungarian identity, football means more than a sport — they play for Székelyföld, thereby creating community, future and strength,” the Consul General underlined, recalling the club’s historic achievements this year: the men's senior team’s promotion to the first division, the women's team’s Romanian Cup triumph, and the Academy’s renewed second place in the national ranking of youth development centres. “These results are not only milestones in sporting history, but also in community life. They prove that perseverance and faith bear fruit,” he concluded, congratulating the players, coaches, leaders and all those whose enthusiasm and dedicated work contributed to the success of our teams. “I am convinced that this foundation will allow further growth, and these teams will bring us supporters many more moments of joy,” Dolhai said, adding that he is a passionate FK supporter and tries to follow all matches — if not at the stadium, then on screen, even while travelling.

In his address, Dusinszki Zoltán, Technical Director of the Academy, said that we can be proud of our community and our athletes, who throughout the year have represented the club and Székelyföld with discipline, perseverance and exemplary dedication. “We are grateful to the more than five hundred young people who take part in our trainings every day: the youngest who compete weekly in the county championships and the Székelyföld Football Championship, the academy players who, far from their families, work tirelessly for their dreams, and all players in our senior teams who placed their trust in FK Csíkszereda. Our thanks also go to the coaches, staff members and parents who supported the work and development of our athletes throughout the year,” the director said.

Among the most important results of the year, Dusinszki Zoltán highlighted the men's senior team’s promotion to the first division, the qualification of every academy age group to their respective play-offs, and the first-division debuts of several talented academy players — Simon Máté, Bödő Efraim Zoltán, Bencze Lóránd, Tóth-Pál Előd and Noveli Luca — and in the second division, Deáky Zsombor. The women’s senior team achieved a historic success by winning the Romanian Cup at the end of the 2024–2025 season, while the U17 girls finished among the top six in the national championship. Our Technical Director, like Consul General Dolhai, wished Ioó Edvin a speedy recovery, expressing his hope that he will soon return among his teammates.
