After an evenly contested first half at the Groupama Arena, the green-and-whites put the Polish side under increasing pressure following the break. The only goal of the match arrived in the 65th minute, when Marius Corbu finished a well-worked move by placing the ball into the left side of the net to secure victory for Ferencváros.

Following the match, the Hungarian sports press unanimously singled out Corbu as one of Ferencváros’ best performers. Several assessments highlighted his considerable attacking activity and willingness to take the initiative, with his goal ultimately deciding the contest. The winner also generated a strong response among supporters and quickly spread across social media.

For the 24-year-old midfielder, it was his first goal of the season in a Ferencváros shirt and his first in a competitive international fixture for the Budapest club. It was also the first European goal of his career. In the new season, the Csángó Hungarian has become a key player under Slovakia-born head coach Balázs Borbély, featuring in every competitive match and regularly being trusted with a place in the starting line-up.

Marius Corbu developed at the Székely Land Football Academy and made his senior debut for FK Csíkszereda in September 2019, aged just 17. A year later, he joined Puskás Akadémia, where he established himself as a key player in the Hungarian top flight over four seasons. In the summer of 2024, he signed for Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia, before joining Ferencváros in January 2026.

After the match, Corbu was naturally delighted with the winning goal, but stressed that the tie was still far from over. Speaking to M4 Sport after the match, the Székely Land Football Academy graduate emphasised that despite the victory, qualification was by no means secured:

“It was a difficult match against a good team. Our biggest opponent was the heat, but we benefited from it because we coped with it better. It is not over yet, however. We have to finish the tie next week. Unfortunately, several of our players were injured, so I played in a different position, but wherever the head coach puts me, I try to perform well.”
