Our Superliga women’s team played on Wednesday late afternoon at the “picturesque” Vega Stadium in Ploiești against local side Petrolul, who compete in the second division, in the third round of the group stage. The first half was more balanced, but towards its end Jehona Shala opened the scoring for the visitors. Midway through the second half, goals from Geréd Erika and once again Jehona Shala secured the win for our team.
According to head coach Szeitl Szilvia, the team fulfilled both its objective of winning the match and the initial expectation of topping the group with three wins. “The next chapter will be the two-legged tie against U Olimpia Cluj in the cup, so we can now focus on the next objective: reaching the final and then winning it. We are no longer focusing on this match, as our attention is already on the weekend league game against Timișoara, where an important challenge awaits us. We rotated the squad as much as possible so that everyone could stay match-fit. Congratulations to the opponent, we faced a committed team that tried to make things difficult, but fortunately they didn’t succeed. We won, and that’s what matters most,” the coach said after the final whistle.
Alongside our team, U Olimpia Cluj (our next opponent), Farul Constanța and Gloria Bistrița also qualified for the semifinals. The first legs will be played on May 13, with the return legs on May 20. We will start the tie against Cluj at home next Wednesday at 18:00 at the Burus Csaba Sports Base.
