The U16s arrived in the historic capital of Moldavia as league leaders, with six wins and one draw, unbeaten so far, but this time Politehnica – sitting only tenth before the round with just four points – turned out to be our bogey team, handing us our first defeat of the season. The final score was already set in the first half: the hosts took the lead in the 11th minute through Neștianu, and although Bíró Botond equalised from a free kick near the end of the half, the same Neștianu immediately replied from the penalty spot – the second penalty awarded to the hosts – and converted. No further goals were scored after the break.
The one-year younger side faced Politehnica as second in the table, just one point behind. The goalless draw can be considered a positive result, as it kept our boys within striking distance of the leaders, even away from home.
