Our U16 Elite League team drew at home this weekend against Bacău FC. Head coach Burus Bernát shares his analysis of the match.

“As with every match against Bacău, this one was also a true derby and a tight battle. We knew our opponent from the past, but we focused mainly on our own game and tried to impose it on them.

It can be said that from the very first minutes we took the initiative and continuously created dangerous attacks. After breaking through on the wings, a series of crosses reached the opponent’s box, but either we weren’t sharp enough, or the Bacău goalkeeper pulled off some great saves. We had the right amount of positive aggressiveness, which allowed us to press very well and give the opponent almost no chance to develop their play or impose their own style.

Even after leading 1–0 at halftime, we kept the match under control. During the break, our request was to play as simply as possible at the back, and then nothing could go wrong. Unfortunately, after two tactical and defensive mistakes, I believe we lost two valuable points at home.

Still, I prefer to look at the positive side: that this age group perhaps played its best match since we’ve been working together; that we managed to dominate such a team as Bacău for almost 90 minutes; and especially that we created more than ten scoring chances against such a high-level opponent.

In the upcoming matches, this attitude and determination can be a huge weapon for the boys, as they saw what good footballers they are and what quality, spectacular football they can produce. On behalf of the staff, congratulations for the performance. The preparation time is short, as on Tuesday we’ll once again play for three points in Brașov!”
