Our U15 team began its Elite Cup campaign with a 2–1 away victory over FC Botoșani. After the match, head coach Fogarasi Zoltán shared his thoughts.
The coach explained that, despite a long and exhausting trip, the team showed no signs of fatigue on the pitch. – “We took control of the game right from the start and had three big chances within the first five minutes. We continued to dominate and, as a result of our pressure, managed to take the lead,” said Fogarasi Zoltán.
He added that although the team dictated play, there were still defensive lapses. – “Our opponents mainly relied on long balls, creating danger due to our occasional poor positioning. The number of technical mistakes was higher than usual, but since we controlled the game, the boys may have felt too comfortable, thinking it was still under control,” the coach noted.
At the beginning of the second half, Botoșani equalised after an individual mistake, but the team reacted strongly. – “After conceding, we didn’t panic. Instead, we increased the tempo and attacked even more aggressively. That paid off, as we managed to score the winning goal,” said Fogarasi Zoltán.
The head coach emphasised that the victory was well-deserved but that improvements are still needed. – “Our defence must be more focused, and we have to reduce the number of technical errors to avoid giving our opponents opportunities. I’m satisfied with our chance creation, but less so with our finishing. We need to improve this so we can close matches earlier,” he explained.
Finally, he underlined the importance of recovery and mental recharge ahead of the next away game. – “I’m very proud of the boys; they are a team with a true winning mentality. Despite the mistakes, they fought hard and fully deserved the victory. Matches and wins like this help the players grow and build their character,” concluded Fogarasi Zoltán.
