With an almost superhuman performance, our U17 team managed to secure victory on Wednesday against Universitatea Craiova, playing half an hour with one man down.
In this rescheduled Round 6 match, we welcomed Universitatea Craiova, who sat in third place, while we were fourth – the last spot leading to the play-offs. That meant the three points at stake were especially important for us. Mitra Szilárd’s boys took the first step toward victory early on: in the 12th minute, Norbert Vass put us in front after a fine individual effort.
Midway through the second half, however, we made life difficult for ourselves. In the 62nd minute, Milán Tóth-Pál picked up two yellow cards in the space of just three minutes, leaving the team a man short. Worse still, only a minute later, substitute Ecobici equalized with a thunderous strike from around 16 meters, the ball taking a slight deflection before hitting the net.
In the 78th minute, the visitors could have taken the lead, but they were denied by the post. Then came the 86th minute: Darius Bota struck from about 14 meters, finding the far corner with precision – 2–1!
In the final minute of normal time, Craiova’s captain Cîrstina tried his luck with the referee, going down easily in the penalty area. His attempt backfired, as he received a second yellow card and was sent off. The Oltenians continued to fight until the end, but no further goals were scored.
Thanks to this victory, we overtook Craiova in the standings, and with three rounds left we prepare with a five-point cushion over fifth place.
