In Round 9 of the Women’s Superleague championship play-offs, we suffered a 4–0 home defeat against Farul Constanța, who mathematically secured the league title at the Burus Csaba Sportpark.
The match was played on a gloomy, rainy May afternoon. We started poorly and the visitors immediately capitalised, taking an early lead. We failed to find our rhythm, Farul controlled the game and created more chances, while we lacked creativity and could not find solutions against the Constanța side. At the end of the encounter, Farul celebrated the championship title with a convincing victory.
The first opportunity of the match fell to us: in the 3rd minute, Fülöp Boglárka fired over the top left corner after an individual action. However, in the 6th minute, following a scramble from a corner kick, the visitors took the lead (0–1).
We struggled to impose ourselves, Farul enjoyed more possession and played with greater determination. In the 26th minute, Böröcz made a fine save to push Chiper’s shot out for a corner. In the 32nd minute, Kis Anita found the top left corner, but the goal was disallowed for offside. The teams went into halftime with a one-goal advantage for the visitors.
At the start of the second half, we tried to increase the pressure. In the 47th minute, Vlădulescu came close to equalising, but Onyango made the save after her run down the right. Shortly afterwards, Farul extended their lead: in the 52nd minute, substitute Gnaly scored (0–2), and in the 58th minute Chiper added a third after breaking through our defence (0–3).
After the third goal, we were unable to get back into the match. In the 73rd minute, Stancu set the final score at 0–4, a result that mathematically secured the championship for the visitors.
After the match, head coach Szeitl Szilvia said:
“I am terribly disappointed because in the first half Farul had only one real dangerous chance. We made a positioning mistake there. At halftime I tried to shake the girls up and told them that if we could string together three passes, we could break through and create chances. We came out well and had the equaliser in our feet, but we couldn’t score, and it’s difficult if you don’t score goals.
After that, Farul made good decisions inside the penalty area and practically finished us off. I’m sorry because this is our biggest defeat and not what we prepared for. First place is gone, but now I have to regroup the team within two days because we are still in the Cup and we definitely want to win it, and in the league we want to secure second place. These are now our two objectives.”
In the next round, on May 17, Sunday at 13:00, we will host U Olimpia Cluj at the Burus Csaba Sportpark.
