Péter Kollár’s side made a good start to the match in Iclod, taking the lead as early as the seventh minute through Jehona Shala. Our play continued to carry the threat of another goal, but in the 23rd minute we were forced into a change due to injury, with Flóra Katona replacing Anna Ezer.
The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute, which Adina Borodi converted, meaning the teams went into the break level. Early in the second half, the referee awarded U Olimpia another spot kick. Borodi made no mistake for a second time, putting the Cluj side ahead.
Our team refused to give up and found a way back into the match through Andrea Herczeg’s 73rd-minute goal. We were not content with a draw after equalising and continued to search for a winner, but four minutes later Pinja Eklund received her second yellow card, leaving us to finish the match with ten players.
The hosts made their numerical advantage count in the 82nd minute, when Tanya Maier scored U Olimpia’s winning goal. Although there could have been more in this eventful match for us, we were unable to reproduce the good performances we had shown in our previous fixtures.
Our head coach described the encounter as an interesting match, but one that came with several sacrifices.
“We took the lead and I felt that we could score again, but in the meantime one of our players was injured in a challenge. After that, we made defensive mistakes and our opponents turned the match around with two penalties. I felt that the officials kept penalising us, although unfortunately we also gave them opportunities to do so. We managed to equalise with great difficulty and were not satisfied with a draw, but our opponents scored again towards the end and that settled the match. There was more in this game for us, but we were unable to reproduce our better performances from the previous matches. We need to reinvent ourselves again, and hopefully we will be able to do so,” said Péter Kollár.
